Alumni Secondary School Committee Network

Dear Pennsylvanian,

Thank you for your interest in participating in admissions recruitment activities as a part of the Alumni Secondary School Committee Network. Well informed alumni play a unique and most important role in helping to spread the good news about Penn around the world. We invite you to join forces with more than 5,000 other alumni volunteers who proudly participate in Penn recruitment activities organized by the Office of Admissions. Secondary School Committee members recruit students, conduct interviews with prospective students, and serve as ambassadors for Penn. To offer interviews to an ever-growing number of enthusiastic applicants, additional alumni volunteers are needed now more than any other time in University history.

While some committees are currently well-staffed and active, additional volunteers are encouraged to join. SSC application for membership is open to Penn undergraduate and graduate alumni degree holders who are in good standing in their communities and who are comfortable discussing the Penn undergraduate experience with prospective students. SSC members must be willing to interview applicants to all four undergraduate schools. All SSC members serve at the discretion of the Office of Admissions.

Local alumni interviews are optional for applicants. At the convenience of interviewer and interviewee, Early Decision interviews are scheduled during the months of October through November and Regular Decision interviews are scheduled through the end of February. Interviews are preferably conducted in person, and Admissions is evaluating use of Skype technology as an alternative for applicants residing in inactive committee areas. To ease applicant anxieties and to help protect the privacy of alumni, interviews are preferably conducted in neutral locations such as public libraries, local coffee houses, and offices open to the public during business hours. SSC members are guided by local alumni chairpeople charged with responsibility for making interview and events assignments, as well as by Admissions/SSC staff who provide advice and support for recruitment activities.

Serving as a Secondary School Committee volunteer is an especially meaningful way to continue your involvement in the life of the University. Help extend Penn's reach in your community. We are pleased to invite you to apply to become a member of the SSC!

Thank You!
