Applying: Requirements and Process for Freshmen

Thank you for your interest in the University of Pennsylvania. To apply to Penn, you must complete and submit both the Common Application and the Penn Supplement to the Common Application. To get started, read the Guidelines for Applying to the University of Pennsylvania.  

Apply Online Using the Common Application

The Common Application can be found here. This application is for freshmen and transfer applicants only. Application instructions and forms for international applicants can be found here

The required Common Application school forms include: 

  • 2 Academic Teacher Recommendations
  • Secondary School Report
  • Early Decision Agreement (only for Early Decision applicants)
  • International Supplement to the School Report (only for those studying outside the United States)
  • Home School Supplement to the School Report (only for homeschooled applicants)

 Seven-Year Bio-Dental Program

In addition to completing the Common Application and Penn Supplement, applicants to Penn's Seven-Year Bio-Dental Program must also complete the Bio-Dental Program Supplemental Application available here:

Freshman Application Checklist 

Required of ALL Applicants:
  • Common Application
  • Penn Supplement to the Common Application
  • SAT and two SAT Subject Tests OR ACT Plus Writing
    SAT: Penn's code is 2926.
    ACT: Penn's code is 3732.
  • All official secondary school transcripts
  • Two Academic Teacher Recommendations
  • Secondary School Report and Counselor Letter
  • Mid-Year Report
Required of SOME Applicants:
  • Application form for Coordinated Dual-Degree, Accelerated, and Specialized Programs
  • International Supplement to the School Report
  • TOEFL
    Penn's code is 2926.
OPTIONAL Items:
  • Art or music portfolio
  • Alumni interview
